The Fight Continues

In an electrifying California Pacific Conference matchup at Providence Christian College on September 22nd, both Providence Christian and Westcliff University locked arms in a volleyball match that had fans on the edge of their seats. Samantha Lister of Westcliff stood out with a commendable 14 kills, while Ava Himstreet added a defensive front with 25 digs. But Providence's duo, Jacey Loewen and Tiari Ho'okano, stole the show, racking up 16 and 14 kills respectively.

The game played out like an intense drama. Providence clinched the 1st and 3rd sets, with Westcliff fighting back hard in the 2nd and 4th. The climax, a heart-stopping 5th set, saw Providence emerge victorious with a 15-10 score.

Providence's Assistant Coach, Athena Abary, beamed with pride after the match. "Tonight's match showcased how hard the girls have been working at practice. They understood their assignments, made quick adjustments, and fought for every point of the game. It was a great win and so much fun to see the girls play as a team and for each other," she remarked.

Jacey Loewen, Providence's sophomore middle blocker, echoed the sentiment. "I'm so proud of my girls after tonight's game! We pushed through the chaos, and it feels so good to get a good win especially against a team like this. Securing the 5th set really was an empowering experience to be a part of as that was something we lacked in the past."

With Providence now sporting a 7-8 record, the Cal Pac season promises even more thrilling encounters. With conference teams showcasing resilience and teamwork, fans have a lot to look forward to.

At the heart of the USK Sports Complex in San Marcos, CA, on September 23rd, 2023, our Sea Beggars took to the court with determination and zeal against the University of Saint Katherine's Firebirds. Although the scoreboard showed a 3-set victory for the Firebirds, the spirit and resolve of the Lady Sea Beggars was unmistakable.

The first set was a testimony to the fight our girls brought to the court. Narrowly missing the mark at 22-25 (despite an early eight point lead), the Sea Beggars challenged the Firebirds at every juncture. Despite facing intensified pressure in the subsequent sets, our athletes showcased their skill and tenacity.

Jacey Loewen, one of our shining stars, demonstrated her growth with an impressive nine kills from just 20 attempts, boasting a remarkable .350 percentage. Tiari Ho'okano was not far behind, delivering seven crucial kills and strengthening the team's defense with 7 digs. Tehani Ho'okano further fortified our defensive line with a commendable 10 digs, and her three serving aces kept the Firebirds on their toes.

The Firebirds, while formidable and remaining undefeated with players like Addison Metts and Naomie Cremoux both racking up 13 kills each, acknowledged our team's potential. University of Saint Katherine's coach, Eryn Leja-Martin, graciously remarked on the growth and strength of the Sea Beggar program and knows the next match will be fun.

This matchup might not have tipped in our favor, but the Sea Beggars remain undeterred. With the spirit of Providence Christian behind them, they're gearing up for the challenges ahead. #skobeggs

Hats off to Chenelle Jones

Last week's conference matches witnessed the sheer tenacity and flair of Providence Christian's very own junior transfer dynamo. Hailing from Winnetka, Calif., our starting libero had fans on their feet with a whopping 47 digs! But that's not all – she spiced up the game with four assists and three thrilling service aces.

While the Sea Beggars celebrated a 1-1 split conference record for the weekend, the zest and zeal that Chenelle brought to the court not only exemplified the team's energy but also hinted at the bright future of PCC's volleyball program.

So, here's to many more exhilarating plays and nail-biting matches! With players like Chenelle lighting up the court, the sky's the limit for our Sea Beggars. Get ready, Sea Beggar Nation; our volleyball stars are just warming up!
