The Lady Sea Beggars Open With A W
Providence Christian Women's Volleyball program opened the 2023 season with a convincing win against West Coast Baptist. The match was played at the Walther Center in Lancaster, CA, and the Beggars won in straight sets with scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-13.
In the first set, Providence Christian displayed an impressive offensive game plan, finishing with a 59.1% attack percentage. The Lady Sea Beggars continued their strong performance in the second and third sets to remain in control throughout the match.
Providence Christian's players showcased their skills developed through their challenging preseason training schedule composed of hours on the court, in the weight room, and off-court team building. Sophomore Rachel Jensen had a strong performance with 6 kills and 4 aces and senior Jordyn Moser also had a notable performance with 6 kills and 1 block. Freshman Isabella Taue'etia played a crucial role as the setter, recording 12 assists along with fellow freshman Josephine Fuamatu and junior transfer Iris Del Valle who also made significant contributions with 5 and 6 points respectively.
When asked about the team's performance, senior Valeria Garcia said, "There is no doubt this is the most talented team in Sea Beggar volleyball history. Our game is aggressive, it's gritty and relentless. After tonight's win against WCB, our goal is to pursue excellence and unity, which sets us apart from other teams. Coach Lauryn and Coach Athena demand greatness from us. They are setting us up for our inevitable success as God fearing women on and off the court." Senior captain, Jordyn Moser added, "Playing teams with a slow pace are always a mental struggle, especially with how scrappy West Coast Baptist is, but I thought we did a great job of finishing each set and staying aggressive. This is a great group of girls with a strong work ethic, and I am excited to see how we compete moving forward."
Overall, The Lady Sea Beggars displayed a strong performance in all aspects of the game, including attacking, serving, and blocking. Their high attack percentage and effective serving allowed them to secure the convincing season opening victory over West Coast Baptist. Providence takes the court again on August 29th at Life Pacific in a double header versus Life Pacific at 3:00pm and a rematch with West Coast Baptist to follow at 5:00pm.
