Lauryn Andrew Named New Head Women's Volleyball Coach
Providence Christian College names Lauryn Andrew as the new head women's volleyball coach. Providence volleyball was founded in 2015, and Coach Lauryn will be the second head coach in program history. Lauryn takes over for founding coach Chris Chown, who leaves the program in great hands and on a strong trajectory.
Coach Lauryn comes to the Sea Beggars with a wealth of knowledge and coaching experiences. She has spent the past 15 years coaching club, high school, and college volleyball, as well as teaching, lecturing, and working in support roles from the university level all the way down to the K-12 district level. Coach Lauryn has deep roots in the club volleyball world and will use those connections to continue the growth of Providence volleyball. She has a passion for young people, an incredibly authentic heart for Christ, and uses volleyball as a tool to intersect those passions. When asked about taking over this position, Coach Lauryn said, "I am thrilled to take on the role of Head Coach for Women's Volleyball at Providence Christian College. Proverbs 16:9 says, 'In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.' This opportunity marks the culmination of years of prayer for my passion for coaching and my faith to align. I am grateful to have the foundation Chris Chown laid for this program and seek to continue his legacy in leading these young women through the core values of excellence, ownership, humility, and heart."
Providence Director of Athletics Brian DeHaan said, "This has been a long process because to truly build our volleyball program we need coaches who love to live the truth of God's word, love mentoring young people, and embrace the mission of Providence Christian College. Lauryn certainly checks all of those boxes, and our community will be blessed by her leadership. Lauryn brings a wealth of volleyball knowledge, and she has positively impacted countless lives. I'm excited that our volleyball team will now have Lauryn investing in their lives."
The Sea Beggars return a solid core of nine players and currently will welcome four new recruits to that group. These young women will benefit from Lauryn's investment in their lives, both on and off the court.
Coach Lauryn and her husband Kenny currently live in El Monte with their two young sons, Nolan and Wyatt. Lauryn received her BA in English from the University of La Verne, and her MA in English from California State University, Northridge. When not coaching or out watching her sons playing sports, she can be found watching football (she has three family members that played in the NFL) or cheering on her Los Angeles Dodgers. Please be sure to come out and support the Lady Sea Beggars this upcoming year, and welcome coach Lauryn Andrew when you see her on campus.
