Marc Lengtat Named New Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach
Providence Christian College proudly introduces Marc Lengtat as the new head men's and women's golf coach. Coach Lengtat takes over the head coaching reigns from Coach Rob Gurule and will be the fourth golf coach in program history.
Coach Lengtat completed his collegiate playing career at Providence in the spring of 2023 and ecstatically accepted the role as new head coach this summer. He had the pleasure of playing for all three previous coaches and has been a fundamental cornerstone of the program history, so it was only fitting that Lengtat lead this program into the future. Lengtat understandably has extensive knowledge of Providence Christian College, the program and each of the current players on the roster. He will focus heavily on recruiting in the months to come to bolster an already strong men's program and restore the women's program for the 2024-25 season. The team was thrilled to hear the announcement of their former teammate being promoted to head coach, as they each hold immense respect for Lengtat as a player and leader.
Previous head coach, Rob Gurule will be making the transition to head men's soccer coach. Coach Gurule will remain connected to the golf program as he will also take on the role of Director of Golf Operations. This position will allow him to help Coach Lengtat with many of the administrative responsibilities, while Lengtat focuses on recruiting and coaching. Coach Gurule has done a fantastic job bringing unity and excitement to the golf program, and Coach Lengtat will carry that torch well into the future. Coaches Gurule and Lengtat built a great rapport over the past year as Gurule leaned on his senior leaders to help in many situations. A mutual respect and bond were developed by these two men that will be extremely fruitful as Lengtat looks to take the Providence golf program to the next level.
When asked about his thoughts on taking over as head coach, Lengtat responded, "I am extremely excited to take over the golf program. I have served as a leader on the team for 5 years and now God has given me the opportunity to lead the team officially. Because I have been a Sea Beggar for 5 years and walked the walk as a college golfer at Providence, I know what it is like to go to this school as well as play on the team. I know what this program needs most, and I know what this program needs to work on. I also have the pleasure of knowing all my players on a personal level, because they were my teammates. I know their games as well as I know my own game, which can make me a better coach for them. I also have a great support system in the athletic department, which allows me to lean on them for guidance. I am extremely grateful for God's plan and for Providence for opening these doors for this opportunity to appear." Director of Athletics Brian DeHaan stated about Lengtat, "I have been blessed to know Marc and to personally witness his growth in Christ over the past five years. Providence is incredibly proud of him, and we remain thankful for his steadfast leadership. Marc has consistently demonstrated servant leadership with humility, and he will be an outstanding leader for our golf program. Marc will provide the consistent leadership our golf program needs, and I firmly believe he will propel this program forward both on and off the golf course.
