The Sandhills of North Carolina
The Providence Christian Men's Golf team competed in the Bell Collegiate, an event at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina. The Sea Beggars found themselves playing against predominantly NCAA Division II programs, forcing them to dig deep throughout the three rounds of action. It was a narrative of ups and downs as the Sea Beggars had stretches of brilliance and moments of collapse over the 54-hole event.
Leading the scoring for Providence was freshman Trey Kirschner (FR/Arvada, CO), who posted rounds of 80, 78, and 73, improving each round for an event total of 231. According to Coach Todd Bowers, much of what led to Kirschner's team leading scoring was "finishing off rounds". Trey was able to close out his rounds on the final three holes by posting an aggregate one under par on that final stretch of holes over the three rounds. Also posting solid rounds were Nicholas Chavez (SR/Alhambra, CA) with a 73 in round two, Marc Lengtat (SR/Corning, CA) with a 75 in round two, and Hayden Hughes (SO/Bakersfield, CA) with respectable 77's in rounds one and three.
Coach Bowers added, "We had a fantastic trip to the Carolinas, had some productive practice rounds and practice sessions, and enjoyed some great team bonding in the Southeast. We just didn't put it all together in the event. We are off pace of where we want to be by about 10-15 shots per round, which can be found and had. We just need to tweak a few things and be efficient in our preparation the next couple weeks leading up to the home stretch of our spring season. Our goal is to be in contention on day three to win the Cal Pac come April 13th."
The Sea Beggars tee it up again in tournament play on April 4th in The Masters University Spring Event at Crystalaire Country Club for their final tune up event before conference play.
