The Return of Men's and Women's Cross Country & Track and Field

Providence Christian College has announced the long-awaited return of its men's and women's cross-country and track programs, with competition set to begin in the fall of 2025. The decision marks an exciting new chapter for the Sea Beggars' athletic department and reflects the college's commitment to continue athletic opportunities for its students.

After a hiatus, the reinstatement of both programs comes in response to a renewed vision for athletics at Providence. The college plans to begin recruiting student-athletes immediately and is actively searching for a head coach to lead the programs.

"We're thrilled to bring back cross country and track," said Director of Athletics Eddie Arnett. "These sports not only enrich the student-athlete experience but also align with our mission of cultivating discipline, perseverance, and excellence—on and off the field of competition."

Providence Christian, a member of the NAIA and the California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac), previously competed in both cross country and track and field before the programs were suspended. With the return of these sports, the college aims to build a competitive presence in the conference while providing student-athletes with a Christ-centered community and a challenging liberal arts education.

The cross-country season will kick off in fall 2025, followed by the track and field season in spring 2026. Providence will begin with a focus on building a strong foundation, with an emphasis on team culture and depth.

"While I am inclined to run only when being chased by coyotes and toddlers, I have long admired persons who do so for additional reasons," said Dr. David Alexander, VP for Academic Affairs. "We are excited to welcome back these sports to the college and to further our commitment to preparing men and women to glorify God with their bodies and serve others."

Prospective student-athletes interested in joining the program are encouraged to contact the admissions or athletics department for more information.
